Goood Morning, Baltimore! Cock-a-doodle-dooooo!
Ok, first, let me explain that we live just a few blocks north of Baltimore city limits in a row house neighborhood, where the homes and cars are packed in tight and the back yards are not much bigger than a small living room...that is to say, NOT RURAL at all.
So, returning from walking my son to school this morning, I thought it must have been some child's novelty alarm clock coming through an open window when I heard a distinct, "Cock-a-doodle-doo!" Then I heard it again, and noticed it sounded awfully authentic. Then I saw a couple walking ahead of me looking in amazement at something on the sidewalk.
And there he was--a rooster roaming around Rodger's Forge...in between the cars, past the mail box, up on the sidewalk. He looked a little confused, as did the small gathering of neighbors who'd stopped to gape at him (esp. the odd woman who parked her baby's stroller and chased him around with her camera phone!)

Yes, newborns do smile! Just look! Baltimore newborn
Recently some whack-o conspiracy theorists decided that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's twins were actually born weeks earlier than the couple purported. What made them think that? Because one of the newborns appeared to be smiling in a photo on a magazine cover. Newborns don't smile until six or seven weeks, they said, so obviously the babies were older than their parents had said.
Theory busted. Exhibit A. Grayson, ten days old...
Acutually, newborns smile quite a lot, but usually in their sleep. Little Grayson here was just being a ham!

Great expectations, Maryland pregnancy portrait session
I rarely show maternity images here because they often are intimate. But this gorgeous mom-to-be was happy to let me share some of these beautiful images of her. So to her, I say thank you very much!
I just had a fun maternity session today with a fellow Baltimore photographer, and I will be sharing a few of those here soon too!

11 weeks old, Baltimore Baby Photo Session
From a baby photographer's perspective, three months is one of the toughest ages. These little ones are not sleepy newborns, nor are they able to sit up or even hold up their heads for long. But, on the upside, this is when their personalities really start to show!
This sweet little girl is Miss Elliot (I love that name!). She made us work for it and conked out right at the very end of the session, just long enough for me to capture a few sleepy shots.

Summer in the city
I didn't grow up with alleys. I grew up in the small-town south, playing in creeks and making mud pies. But my kids are being raised in the city where the yards are small (ours is a courtyard, no grass. See picture #4 taken in front of the goldfish pond) and you play where you can. In our case, it is often the alley. But lucky for me, the lighting in alleys can be awesome! I'd heard concrete reflects light beautifully, so I brought my camera out yesterday while Graham was skateboarding. I never post my own children here, so here they are, unkempt, uncombed, just a regular summer afternoon for two city kids!
